A good mystery: Where does the cave go? The Kipuka Kanohina system winds its way under many square miles of lava flow. A large break in the known portions of the cave system invites continued examination. One possible route is into (and through?) a section of collapse. A small step foward is made with careful probing by Carl Snyder (first two shots) and Ron Carlson. Nothing loosens up the muscles like a day of squeezing and crawling.

A sudden example of mineralization, enroute to the investigation site. This shows a three foot segment of a patch that went floor to ceiling in a 7 foot passage for several feet, near a lava ball constriction in a otherwise open walking corridor:
